Motourama Part 2: Trying To Fix More Than We Break

Hello family, friends and followers!

In Münster we focused on spending quality time with the family and friends, and when there were some quiet moments, we went to work on the bikes. We needed to fit Phoenix with a new handlebar, as well as handlebar risers, engine crash bar, an LED headlight bulb, and a 12V plug for charging the electrical bobs and bibs. We were also kind enough to change out the fork oil in the front suspension and the inner tube of the rear tire.

Falkor got some handlebar protection and heated grips, which needed a bit of rough love with a grinder and a hack saw to make them fit somewhat neatly. An awesome friend had created bespoke cylinders for the front suspension to improve preload for Esben’s extra body weight and equipment. A battery tester was also connected to monitor the lithium battery, which can die if completely zapped for power. With the charging of multiple devices at once, on top of the occasional running of heated grips, the power can drain faster than it is recharged by our not so mighty alternator.

“Do some light work on the bikes” they said. “It will be easy” they said.

After a couple of days of work, the bikes were finally in one piece again, more or less. As we found out in the next couple of days, Phoenix only wants to start in neutral. We are still working on the solution, so keep tuned.

We could set off towards Darmstadt, to meet up with good friends and their newly born daughter the next day. How that trip went, you can see in the next instalment of our Travel Stories.
