Motourama Part 7: How To Make Your House Swim

Hello family, friends and followers! In this Travel Story, snow has been replaced by sun and we witness the water birth of a house.

Denise’s old employer, and good friend, had rented a floating bungalow on the Brandenburg Lakes with her husband and a few friends and helpers. The bungalow is motorised and can be sailed around on the lakes by the renters after a short introductory course in how to behave on the water and how to steer the boat.

We got to sleep in the couple’s van so we didn’t have to peg up the tent. We also got to test out our sleeping bags in below zero weather, which they handled without a problem.

Frosty seat

While we were there, a new house boat was being prepared to be lifted into the lake. A somewhat rare event, which had to be witnessed.

A house on pontoons on wheels.

Ever seen the film Up? This is how they achieved the special effects for when the house was lifted by the balloons. I am like 72% sure of it

House ahoy!

It had only taken 3 months to get seaworthy. There were just a few interior spots to pimp out, and it could be used in it’s current state. And that, friends and family, is how to make your house swim.

Until next time, stay afloat!
